If you are a big DIY enthusiast, or a qualified painter and decorator it is quite understandable that you will feel well-equipped to complete an interior decoration project.
However, for those less experienced it must be understood that the work does not simply involve giving walls, skirting, ceilings and frames a quick clean, grabbing tins of paint with one or two different roller and brush sizes and getting on with it.

CEILING:
Many of us overlook the effect the largest ‘wall’ in a room can have on the final outcome. Look up! It is so easy to dismiss your ceilings and simply put a clear white coat on it. Don’t. Consider shades of cream they are far more appealing.

MIX & MATCH – PART 1:
The furniture in any room plays a major part in enhancing a new colour scheme. Don’t be tempted to simply take a fabric swatch to your paint supplier and try to match the colour.
Do not match wall colour with any exact colour of furniture. Look for similar colours in different shades.
MIX & COMBINE:
Bright, breezy and striking colours are great, but don’t go over the top. Make sure you get a balance in terms of combining bright and neutral colours. Conversely, using too much neutral colour will not achieve what you are looking for.
It is important to mix and match striking colours with neutral ones. The result will be far more satisfying.
GIVE YOUR ROOMS A ‘CONNECTION’:
Do not feel you need to decorate individual rooms or spaces in totally different colours and shades. The result will leave a disjointed effect.
Different colours and shades in all areas are fine, but make sure they blend and connect.
DON’T MAKE FIRM ROOM COLOURS TOO FAR IN ADVANCE:
It is only natural to want to make firm decisions on all room colour schemes at once then rush out and buy all of the paint. Don’t do it.
You should have an initial idea for each room and if you do end up with that total colour scheme this is fine, but as you finish one area take a step back and consider how your next area will blend with the completed section(s).
You will be amazed at how different shades of your original choice or similar colours can enhance the project.
